Obituary of Jamal Washington

When you hear the words “It takes a Village” well in Jamal’s case it was a village that played an important role in his life. Jamal Washington was born August 14, 1978 in Oakland, California. Jamal spent most of his adolescent years between Oakland with his Mother “Lou-Lou” and Godmother “Sue-Sue” and San Jose with “Papi Joe” & “Mommy Girt” and his extended family. Jamal was like a little brother to Stanley, Angie, Vicki and Brenda. He became an uncle to their children and loved being called “Uncle Jamal”. He was very proud of all of their accomplishments. Every birthday and holiday Jamal made sure he would show expressions of love by calling or texting. Jamal graduated from Skyline High School in Oakland, CA and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from California State University Sacramento. At the age of 22, Jamal started working at United Parcel Service (UPS) as a package handler and later became a driver. He proudly dedicated 18 years of service to UPS. Jamal had two huge passions in life; his love for Chevy Impalas and his dogs: Doezja and Indica. His cars and his dogs were like his babies which he cherished greatly. He also enjoyed working in his lavish garden growing his own fruits and vegetables. Jamal is preceded in death by his Grandparents Walter Sr. and Louise Washington and his Uncle Andrew Washington. Jamal is survived by his loving Mother Lula Washington of Sacramento; Aunt Georgia Washington-Mathews (Roger) of Seattle, Washington; three Uncles Walter Washington, Jr. of Seattle, Washington, Fred Washington of Seattle, Washington; and Ed Washington of Las Vegas, Nevada; Godmothers Sue Mason and Annie Jones of San Jose; God brother, God sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
