Not a day goes by that I don't think of my beautiful mother. I pray that the grief diminishes with time, but every day reminds me of what I miss so much about her. She was so happy to see me and hugged me so tightly. I miss those hugs and her infectious smile! I am so happy that she is with her beloved husband, but miss her in my life, selfish yes!

I work at Oakmont and that is where I met Geri “downtown “ brown as I always called her and I grew very close to her over the years, she loved to dance and as I worked in activities I would always dance with her it brought her so much joy, her warm smile and gentile laugh always comforted me, one of my most fond moments is when we all took a trip to apple hill and she was so happy that whole trip, words will never do it justice what she meant to me and I will miss her every day, there won’t be a day that goes by where she doesn’t cross my mind, there are just some things in life you don’t get over...

Continuation from 1st post: When I was in middle and high school I would travel the Bay Area for sports and a lot of the time I would be the only player to have a family member in the stands on away games. They would go to both home games (45 min drive) and my away games close to them in San Jose. That was always a nice surprise to see them. Later on they moved to the Santa Rosa retirement community and I would still visit and enjoy lots of walks and the clubhouse with Meme. Luckily when they moved to Lincoln, we were still spending a lot of time 2 hours away in Tahoe so I always stopped in Lincoln for extended stays. Pretty quickly it escalated to me bringing in my whole animal rescue herd of dogs, but while Meme always kept a spotless and clean house she welcomed all 3 big dogs and myself for weeks at a time. We really liked taking long walks in Sun City. They had great trails, but not sure if Rufus or Meme enjoyed the walks more. We even lost her poor wedding ring one afternoon walking the dogs after lunch. I still think the leash must have popped the diamond out of the band. Even though Meme was quiet upset to lose her beautiful diamond, I remember the search party that included both twins, multiple grandchildren and a lot of family time. Wish we could still look with her. Meme always made me feel really loved and we certainly formed a strong bond. She was simply a lot of fun to be with. I really miss her, but I’m really glad I have the special memories I have.

I have a lot of great memories to share so I apologize in advance for the length of this. I spent significant amounts of time with my Meme and Papa. Not just growing up, but as an adult. I was really close with them, but to be honest they were simply a lot of fun and made you feel so comfortable in their home. Meme made sure to take all of us grandkids on different adventures all over the Bay Area and we got to try things that out parents didn’t expose of too. As a young child I remember taking a metal detector out to find treasure, going for hikes, rock collecting, learning to fish, taking a train for fun, going to ethnic restaurants to try different types of food (not so new of an activity now, but I do think that was more special for the 90’s), endless tinkering projects in Papa’s garage, plays and yoga with Meme. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen starting really young around 10 learning and helping Meme follow her many many recipes. I loved to cook and eat and loved the endless supply of candy on her kitchen table and soda in the fridge I couldn’t get at home:) I remember choosing to spend weekends when I was in high school with Meme and Papa in Santa Clara. We would cook A LOT, watch really good cop shows we both liked (a lot of Murder She Wrote) and walk to shop at Marshall’s near their house. When I was little we would walk to Donald’s and I loved that! How many American grandma’s teach their grandchildren how to make sushi in the 1990’s? There was always a fun and new activity. Meme and Papa were always so happy to show us grandkids off walking around the neighborhood taking to friends (they knew everyone at each house they had) and most especially taking us to church on Sundays. Their faces would light up introducing us, and I remember really seeing the love and pride so vividly to this day.

To Geri's family... I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. In my short time at Oakmont, she grew very near and dead to my heart. She will always be one of my most favorite residents. While we feel the loss here on earth, I'm so thankful that she's now fully healed and rejoicing in Heaven with her Heavenly Father. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve the loss of your mom.

Geri's other daughter Sharon also came when she was in town and joined us in the fun times too. Geri was a wonderful, loving friend to me and my granddaughters, Alexis, and Breanna. When she became a resident at Oakmont, I enjoyed visiting with her and bringing her See's Candy or having ice cream with her and Sheila. We will miss her till the day we join her in Heaven with our heavenly father Jesus Christ.
