Obituary of David Lee Thompson

David Lee Thompson passed away on Dec 8, 2020, in Sacramento, CA. Born Dec 23, 1950, in Salem IL to Jim Thompson and Margaret Ann Thompson (Loomis) who preceded him in death. He graduated from Salem Community High School in 1969 and later Southern Illinois University at Carbondale before moving his young family to California. Even after moving to California, his love for St Louis Cardinal baseball never faded. Even if it meant he had to go to the Giants games to watch them play which he did every chance he could. As a middle school history teacher, he was quite the showman, sparing no embarrassment creating an enriched, entertaining environment for his students utilizing his unique wardrobe choices and lip-syncing skills. His history knowledge was vast, having a fun factoid for almost every activity and he never stopped sharing his knowledge, even after retiring in 2018. Never one to take himself or life too seriously, his unreserved laughter lit up a room and he always knew just the right way to put a smile on your face. He knew the true value of a roll of duck tape and always had perfect timing for a good dad joke. He is survived by his wife Betty Marchbanks, his daughters Erika Thompson and Adrienne Thompson, his sister Debbie Swain, brother Frank Thompson, several nephews, and a niece. He was a good man, a great husband and father, and he will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity Pencils of Promise which helps provide education to students in Ghana, Africa; a cause dear to David's heart. https://pencilsofpromise.org/ A private family ceremony will be held with a celebration of life service at a later date.
