Obituary of Gary Eugene Reynolds

It's with heavy hearts to announce the passing of our father, Gary Eugene Reynolds. After a lionhearted battle against Parkinson's Disease, he gently passed away Thursday, December 30th, 2021, with both his daughters by his side. Gary was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Shirley. An extraordinary father to his two daughter’s, Michelle and Suzanne. A doting grandfather to his six grand kids, Trevor, Zachary, Brittany, Ryan, Austin and Jake, as well as a loving big brother to his sister, Treasure. He was born June 18th, 1938 in Yuba City, California. Early through his elementary years, he moved with his family to Rio Linda. He attended Grant High School, and it was there he met the love of his life, our beloved mother, Shirley Dolores (Powell) Reynolds. They married just after graduation, moved to Sacramento and would be celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary later this year. After working as a janitor, school bus driver and an appliance salesman, Gary found his niche as a residential realtor and broker. A successful and fulfilling career lasting well over 40 years. A mentor for many, and a lifelong friend for many more. Dad loved being with his family and friends. He loved sports, especially the SF49er's and the Sacramento Kings! He loved boats, fishing and the water, playing golf, throwing parties, was artistic, like his father, had an insatiable sweet tooth, a fondness for Jack Daniels and a quick-whited sense of humor that was hard to match! Dad was the best! The snuggles and hugs were never-ending. Backyard camp outs, dolphin rides in our swimming pool and bedtime stories from his creative imagination that would drift us off to slumber. Barbies, curlers, makeup, curfews and cars. First dates, father/daughter dances, and becoming a grandpa. He was strong and dependable. He was loving and comforting. He was kind, caring and patient. He was the first man we ever loved, and we will both miss him dearly. He loved his grand kids and his role as a grandpa. They received unlimited "blanket rides" around the house, would spend hours reading the comics, perform magic tricks and build all sorts of things from items found in his garage. Visits to the zoo, scavenger hunts, and endless trips to the Dollar Store! Donuts before school, cookies before dinner and endless "pull my finger" games. He gave good advice and knew when to listen. Knew when to pick us up and when to let us fall. He was honorable, genuine, loving and an all around amazing man. He will be deeply missed. At this time, our immediate family is grieving our loss privately. A celebration of life honoring our father will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in his name can be made to the Parkinson's Association of Northern California (PANCtoday.com) to help enhance the lives of others and their families.
