Obituary of Barbara Ann Dickard

Barbara Ann Dickard of Lincoln, CA, passed peacefully on May 19, 2022, at the age of 82. Born in Philadelphia to Lt. Colonel Francis Roddy, Sr. and Mrs. Agnes Roddy, Barbara was a proud “Army brat.” Along with her older brother Francis, Jr. (Frank), and younger sister Rosemary, the Roddy family called many places their home during her childhood and young adult years. Treasured memories created while they lived in Memphis, TN, Boston, MA, the Panama Canal Zone, and El Paso, TX, stayed with her throughout her life. While attending her alma mater Loretto Academy in El Paso, Barbara met the love of her life, Theodore (Ted) Dickard, and their story began. They married in 1960, moving soon after to San Diego, CA, where they started their family. In their next home in Billings, MT, they welcomed their two youngest children before settling in San Jose, CA, where she was a valued neighborhood mother and close member of their parish church community for many years. Working outside the home at times was another way she supported her loved ones. Barbara’s life centered around family. As Barbara and Ted’s children grew, they opened their home many times to foreign exchange students who also became part of the Dickard family. She likewise cherished the friends she made throughout her life. Starting with her first move to a new neighborhood as a young girl, making friends and catching up came naturally to her where ever she went… running the kids (and later the grandkids) to school and after-school activities, volunteering at church preparing bulletins, at Sun City Lincoln Hills stuffing Compass inserts, line and square dancing, attending chair exercise class, and even while going to the store to pick up a few groceries. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and friend to so many. Along with her husband of 62 years, Barbara is survived by their five children: Deborah Viva, Kathryn Mulqueen, Cheryl Dickard, Jeffrey Dickard, and Jeannine Madden; four grandchildren: Taylor Wilson, Jessica Briles, Stephen Briles, and Jillian Madden; and one great-granddaughter: Lana Wilson; another great-granddaughter is on the way. Barbara’s funeral service will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lincoln, CA, on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with rosary service and mass taking place at 10:00 AM. A reception will be hosted at 1:00 PM at the Sun City Lincoln Hills Orchard Creek Lodge. The service will also be streamed live, details to come. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center: 8421 Auburn Blvd, Ste 265, Citrus Height, CA 95610. Website: https://www.deloro.org/
