Dear Grandpa, I will never forget the summers spent in Sacramento with you and Meme. Going on walks around the neighborhood to feed the horses carrots and getting ice cream at baskin robbins. Watching a Giant’s game was never boring with you. I will always remember your contagious laughter and smile and cherish the way you made me feel everytime I was in your presence. I love you and I miss you. Love, Amelia

To the Brasel Family - I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was always so nice to both my sister, Martha and I. I remember spending many hours and dinners at your wonderful home in Carmichael. The dinner table was always “lively” with all of you and your mom and dad. They were so welcoming and gracious about yet another kid to feed!! The house was always warm and full of music...mostly live music!! Such great and wonderful memories, how lucky we are!! Even though as children we expect to outlive our parents it’s still a very difficult process to go through. Please take care of yourselves during this upcoming holiday season. I am thinking of you all and I will keep you in my prayers. Sending special thoughts to you Glen and Debbie. Please send my condolences to your wonderful mother and I am so grateful that she and my mom were able to work together, mom said that she was always so happy when your mom was there. Sending my thoughts and prayers to her too.

Dad, There are just not enough words to tell you how grateful I am for you. You were the best father-in-law, welcoming me into the Brasel family with open arms. You were the best grandfather, coming to every sports game, dance recital, music recital, and graduation of Jason, Janet, and Josh. Your love and support through out the years was beyond measure. I love you, miss you, and praise God for you.

Dearest Grandpa, I have so many fond memories from all the summers we spent with you, but the year i lived with you and Meme is when i really got to know you. We went for walks around the block, we went to the gym together, and you even taught me how to drive a car. On our car drives you would gladly listen to the hitlist radio stations that I listened to, and you especially liked the song you used to call, «Nashville party song», (Miley Cyrus- party in the USA). You loved watching The Ellen Show with me, and every day after dinner we would each pick a chocolate from the chocolate box. Your favorite was the lemon flavor one. Every saturday you made pancakes for breakfast, and they will always be the best pancakes. I miss you and i will always cherish the memories i have of you. Love you. - Agnete Iris

The Summer of 1974 holds a lot of indelible memories for me. That was when I was lucky enough to be a quest of my Uncle Tom in Sacramento, California. Uncle took me on exhilarating rides in his red convertible on those really wide freeways. He invited me to work in his office to learn some basic accounting skills which serves me to this day. That Summer I spent time getting to know my cousins Wayne, Kathy, Karen, Janet and Ron. I remember camping in mountains, exploring bike trails into the City limits. Sailing on Lake Tahoe, staying up to late playing the card game Hearts and wicked competitive ping-pong ball duels. I was in awe of the bigness of the West Coast Brasel family and oh how big it has become. I wish I had more time to get to know Uncle Tom - RIP.

Earliest memory: I was often at the Brasel house, which was less than two miles from my family’s house. Cousin Mike and I were the same age, and we got along well. Uncle Tom was usually away at work when Mike and I played together, but once, when I was probably a pre-schooler, I got some help from Uncle Tom. We were out in the garage, and I don’t remember what I needed—perhaps help tying my shoes or strapping on roller skates. He very patiently assisted me, and was so close that I could hear his breathing. That was the first time I’d ever noticed someone’s breathing, except during heavy exercise. When he finished, I was off with a quick, “Thanks, Uncle Tom!” Last memory: At the memorial service for Uncle Wesley, in September 2019, I saw Uncle Tom and Aunt Laurie for the first time in many years. Happy to finally see them again, I walked up to where they were sitting and knelt in front of them with a greeting. Aunt Lauri looked blankly at me, this old, grey-haired stranger, but Uncle Tom was quick to say, “Hi, Chris!” He had recognized me immediately, after more than 30 years. Other memories: Dreading Uncle Tom’s arrival after Mike and I set the backyard fence on fire. Our “innocent” little science experiment had quickly gotten out of control. Soon, despite our best efforts to tamp down the blaze, black smoke filled the neighborhood, and the fire department had been called. Aunt Laurie was pretty angry with us, and Mike was expecting the worst, but when Uncle Tom arrived, punishment was actually pretty light. Spending a day with Tom & Laurie on their big teak-wood sailboat. It was docked on the San Francisco Bay, and we sailed around Alcatraz Island. What a beautiful day!

My most vivid memory of Tom and family was from a cross country family trip we took in (I think) the summer of 1963. It was the fourth of July and Tom had planned an amazing fireworks display. My mom and dad, my brother Dan and I, Don and La Vina and all the cousins gathered at Tom and Laurie's home, eagerly waiting what was in store that evening. Finally, it was dark enough to begin so Tom lit off the first firework. Most likely, no one remembers that first firework, but WE ALL remember what happened next.... a spark from that first work strayed off and landed in the box, where ALL the other fireworks were waiting. The entire box exploded in spectacular fashion in about 45 seconds. At the time, all of us cousins were so dissappointed, we cried into the night... but looking back, all I can say is what a grand finale Tom ! Cheers !
