Obituary of Pete Dan Kountanis

On Wednesday March 1, 2023 Pete Kountanis, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 88.  Pete was born in Gooding, Idaho on October 9, 1934 to Dionysios and Efthemia Kountanis.  Shortly thereafter the family moved to Antioch, CA.  Upon graduating from Antioch High School, Pete enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Europe where he met and married the love of his life, Stella on March 9, 1960.  They lived in Antioch for 42 years prior to moving to Rocklin, CA in 2002 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. 

Pete enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering in his “man cave” garage.  There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or repair.  Pete enjoyed traveling and exploring new places.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and being in the great outdoors.  His greatest catch was a vintage anchor he pulled out of the river in Antioch that he kept in his backyard and became a conversation piece with visitors.  

He is survived by his wife Stella of 63 years, his two children Mary Bales and Pete Triando Kountanis, son-in-law Peter Bales, his twin granddaughters, Nicole and Samantha, and his nieces and nephews Kosta, Maria, Danny, Sandy, Kim, Matthew and Andrew.  In heaven, he joins his parents, brother Bill Kountanis and sisters Fay Vouyioukas and Theodora Barmore.  May their memories be eternal.

A private family service is planned for Pete.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a favorite charity.
