Mitchell Buich

Obituary of Mitchell Anthony Buich

Mitchell Anthony Buich was born on January 17th, 1938 to proud Croatian parents, Mitchell and Mary Buich, in San Francisco, California.

Mitch grew up in Tadich Grill, his family’s restaurant, and had a love for food, cooking, and hosting that was infectious. In the fall of 1958, Mitch fell in love on the dance floor with his future wife, Nora Moreno, which, given how much Mitch loved dancing, felt like sweet fate. He and Nora were married on Saturday, November 8th, 1958 at St. Paul’s Church in San Francisco and quickly welcomed their three boys over the following three years.

Mitch and Nora raised their three boys in Clayton, California, and enjoyed being a part of their East Bay community. In September of 1995 Mitch unexpectedly lost Nora, but was lucky enough to find love again with his second wife, Jan. They married in March of 1997 and enjoyed sharing their lives together everywhere from Alamo, to Carlsbad, to Eagle, and Palm Springs.

Mitch was a car salesman at heart. He loved talking business and swapping stories with his loved ones, of which there were plenty. Mitch lived many places throughout his life and made friends no matter where he went. He was a person who cared and was infinitely curious about the person sitting in front of him. Mitch loved to be around his kids and grandkids. He’d happily sit and talk about everything from sports and politics to life lessons for hours on end, especially while playing a good game of cards. He will be remembered as having been someone who always listened with great interest and who genuinely cared to understand the opinions and experiences of others.

Mitch lived a good and happy life, deriving much joy from his family and friends, cooking, playing cards, and hitting the links. He died on Saturday, February 18th at the age of 85 years old. He is survived by his beloved three sons Mitch, Dave, and Jeff, his twelve grandchildren, his seventeen great-grandchildren, his sisters, Norma and Carol, and his ex-wife whom he loved until the end, Jan.

The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 20th, 2023, at 11:00 am at Contra Costa Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in Mitch’s name as he was in the service and took a lot of pride in being a veteran
