Obituary of Joel Sterling Wilson

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear son Joel Sterling Wilson. Joel passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday May 6, 2023 at his home in Roseville just twelve days shy of his 45th birthday. Joel will be sadly missed and he will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Joel was born on May 19, 1978 to Jeanne A. Engebretsen Wilson and Arthur W. Wilson. A 1996 graduate of Mesa Verde High school, Joel attended Sierra College and worked in a variety of food service jobs before being diagnosed with adult-onset epilepsy. Joel is survived by his mother, Jeanne A. Cunningham and stepfather, Mark A. Cunningham of Foresthill CA, his father, Art Wilson of Roseville CA, his brother Aaron Wilson, his sister in law Amy Wilson, his nephew Anchor Wilson and niece Avilyn Wilson, all residing in Roseville, California.

Joel’s passion was computers. Unfortunately, his epilepsy restricted his ability to pursue a career in computer technology, but he was always working on some electronic gadget. When he wasn’t working on a computer project, Joel was learning everything he could on YouTube. He was very proud of his porch plants. He had a fishpond outside and a 50 gallon aquarium in his tiny studio apartment. Joel was also interested in all things related to Space. To say he was a Trekkie doesn’t really cover it. He seemed to have Star Trek playing on the television at any time of the day. Well, he has met his Final Frontier. Joel was a kindhearted gentle man who was loved and cared for by his family. They will miss his long hugs, and his sunny smile.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Joel on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Auburn Regional Park, 3770 Richardson Drive, Auburn CA from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Picnic Area #2. Joel’s favorites, pizza and Pepsi, will be served. Any side dishes that guests would like to bring are welcomed and appreciated.
