Obituary of Phuong My Maduell

Phuong My Lam was born on January 14, 1953, daughter of Nhu Ngoc Dang and Thuan Van Lam. Phuong worked at the American Embassy in Vietnam until 1975, when she came to the United States as a refugee. At Camp Pendleton she met Marilyn Dombrink, whose loving family helped her find work and a place to live. Marilyn introduced Phuong to Robert Maduell in July, 1975, while he was on summer break from college. On October 7, 1978, Phuong and Robert were married at St. Felicitas Church in San Leandro, CA. On July 9, 1982, little Karen Alicia was born, soon followed by Michael Joseph on June 19,1984. Phuong provided a loving home to her husband and children throughout her life. In 1991, Phuong reunited with her family from Vietnam and welcomed her brothers and sisters with their spouses and children into her home. She provided love, support and guidance as her family integrated into the California scene. Shortly after celebrating her 30th Anniversary, Phuong became gravely ill (brain cancer) and she passed on February 2nd, 2009. Phuong was a generous and loving person who had a genuine love for God, her family and her many friends. She was a strong and very compassionate women whom everybody loved to be around.
