Obituary of Rachel Sue Burke

Rachel Sue Burke passed away October 21st, 2023, surrounded by her family at the age of 79. She was a dear friend, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin.

Rachel was born on February 12th, 1944, in Auburn, CA to Francis and Marion Evers. She is the 5th of 11 siblings. Rachel attended Placer High School and is in the graduating class of 1962. She then attended and graduated Sierra College in 1964. After she graduated college, she began her life-long career in commercial insurance and retired at the age of 70.

Rachel married the love of her life, Bernard Conrad Burke, on October 24th, 1970, in Reno, Nevada. They began their married life in Citrus Heights, California. Bernie brought four children into their family: James, Debra, John, and David. Soon after, their daughter Laura was born.

Rachel and Burnie were avid bowlers and competed in leagues and tournaments. She enjoyed gambling, loved to read, play games, go on walks, and spend time with her family. Rachel loved to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Rachel also enjoyed traveling.

Rachel leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Conrad Burke, her stepchildren, James Patrick, Debra Jean, and John Joesph, her parents Francis and Marion Evers, her siblings Wynona Virgil, Barbara Evers-Parfitt, Eric Evers, Grace E. Evers, Ron Pinegar, and Lloyd Forster. She is survived by her children Laura Geoia (Paul) and David Burke (Illene), her granddaughters Cassandra Quintana (Claudio daughters Aurelia and Luana),Megan Burke, Katilin Burke (Ian Spurr), Gabriella Newman (DeMario), Isabella Davenport (Deric), and Arianna Geoia, and her siblings Linda Fain (Les), Bea Forster, Cathy Zick (Jim), Cindy Evers, April Pinegar, Marty Evers (Mary), as well as many close nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on November 7th, at 11am at The Pointe Church, 8144 Watt Ave, Antelope, CA. A private interment will be held at a later date at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
